Magnussen ‘not panicking’ after 17th in China

The Renault cars spent much of the race at the rear of the field, but Kevin Magnussen says the team knew it’d be a tough race for the team and isn’t panicking.

The Dane qualified 17th on Saturday and never looked like going forwards during the Grand Prix.

Both Renaults struggled getting temperature into the tyres, particularly after the safety car period, and Magnussen says the team can’t understand some of the problems they faced.

“There’s a lot we still don’t really understand so once we do, we’ll be a stronger team,” he said.

“This isn’t a weekend that we will be very happy about but it’s definitely one that we can learn from.

“It was a pretty steady race for me really. I had a decent start and then I didn’t actually have much action; just passing people on strategy so no one was really fighting hard.

“We knew it was going to be a tough start, we’re not panicking.”
