Haryanto: I was hoping for more of a fight today

Manor driver Rio Haryanto hoped for a better fight today, after he could only manage 21st at the Chinese Grand Prix.

After an incident packed first corner, the Indonesian driver managed to come out of it unscathed, and battled for position with the Saubers, Renaults and Haas’.

However, towards the end of the race Haryanto said he was lacking a bit of pace, but was happy to see the chequered flag.

“In the early part of the race we were in the mix with Sauber, as we have been at various parts of the weekend, and also with Haas, but towards the end we were just lacking pace a little bit,” he said.

“I managed to hold off Palmer until the end which was good, so while I’m happy that we managed to get both cars to the chequered flag again, I was hoping for more of a fight today.”

However, the 23-year-old remained optimistic that the team could learn from this and improve over the next few races.

“The signs are good though and I think we know what we need to do to improve and make that possible,” he said.

“My thanks to my crew and the team and let’s keep pushing for Russia.”
