The inaugural Mexico ePrix has come to a close, and it was full of stories both on and off track. Although he ended up being disqualified after the race came to a close, my pick for the star driver still goes to Lucas di Grassi.
While championship leader Sebastien Buemi topped both practice sessions, Di Grassi was hot on the heels of the Swiss driver both in the sessions and in the overall standings. The Brazilian was in the second qualifying group with Buemi and eventual race-winner Jerome D’Ambrosio, and all three made it to the super pole group. Di Grassi kept his lap clean but wasn’t able to get near the time set by D’Ambrosio.

He started off the race well, battling with his teammate Daniel Abt going into the first chicane of lap one. While there were a couple of instances where the Brazilian went wide going into chicanes during his first stint, he looked faster than Nico Prost in front of him. Just before everyone entered the pits, he was able to pass the Renault e.dams driver to move up to second.
The pit stop went well for Di Grassi, although the Brazilian stumbled slightly getting out of the car. Having been one of the drivers to win the Fan Boost, he used it early into his second stint to pass Dragon Racing’s D’Ambrosio to take over the lead. While the Belgian was locked in a heated battle with Buemi, Di Grassi kept out of trouble and finished the race approximately ten second ahead of everyone else.

While Di Grassi took his chances well to be able to finish in first, he was disqualified from the race after stewards found that his first car was under the 888km weight limit. Instead of passing Buemi in the championship standings, he leaves Mexico 22 points behind the Swiss driver.
