Marquez declared fit to test after surgery

Álex Márquez has been declared fit to race ahead of testing in Jerez.

The Spanish Moto2 rider had to undergo surgery at Hospital University Quiron Dexeus to insert a screw into his triquetrum in his left wrist after coming off in a private test in Jerez.

Since his surgery, Márquez has followed an intensive recovery plan and although he is not completely recovered, he has been declared fit enough to test.

Marquez said: “The surgery to stabilise the fracture in my wrist was only last week, so I head to Jerez not 100 recovered, but certainly fit enough to test the new suspension and different settings on the bike. Sure, the injury will be a handicap so I’ll need to adjust on the bike, but I think my condition is good enough that we can do a good job over the three days at Jerez.”

Team Chief Michael Bartholemy has said, “Álex’s recovery from the injury and subsequent surgery has been quicker than we expected, with the surgery only taking place seven days ago, he’s not completely fit, but his recovery is enough that he won’t be hampered too much by the injury on the bike. Even so, we will monitor his condition closely over the three days at Jerez and we won’t hesitate to call it a halt if we feel the risk starts to outweigh the benefit of him testing.”

Testing is set to take place in Jerez, Spain on March 2nd for the Moto2 class, at the same time the MotoGP class will be testing in Qatar. The Moto2 and Moto3 classes will then go on to test in Qatar from March 11.
