Conway to replace Villeneuve at Venturi

Jacques Villeneuve has left the Venturi Formula E Team with immediate effect after three disappointing races in the series.

The former Formula One World Champion and Indy 500 winner has split with the team by mutual consent and will be replaced by Mike Conway, having already tested for Dragon Racing. He will partner Stephane Sarrazin for the rest of the season, starting at the next ePrix in Buenos Aries next month.

Formula E duties will be run alongside a World Endurance Championship campaign for Conway, who has been known as a street circuit specialist in Indycar over the last few years. He had a large oval crash in 2012 in which he decided later that he was uncomfortable driving on ovals, which saw his full time drive in Indycar disappear. The Englishman then moved to the World Endurance Championship, where he has a works drive with the Toyota team.

Conway said: ‘‘Venturi is a top team in Formula E so it’s great to be able to join. The series is innovative and quite unique. It is quickly growing momentum and it’s attractive to a lot of manufacturers to showcase their technologies, so it’s exciting to be a part of the series.’’
