Cal Crutchlow has tipped Repsol Honda rider Dani Pedrosa to win the 2016 MotoGP title, as he believes the new Michelin tyres will suit the Spaniard’s riding style.
In 2016, Michelin replaces Bridgestone as the sport’s sole tyre supplier. A new type of tyre means different riding styles will benefit from this change – Crutchlow believes Pedrosa’s weight and rear-focused style will mean he is one of the favourites going into 2016.
“I think Dani has the biggest shot at the title because he’s not going to load the front tyre in the same way as everyone else,” explained LCR Honda rider Crutchlow.
“He’s got so much experience on Michelin tyres and what he did at [the post-season test at] Valencia seemed to come really easy. He’s the guy to look out for [in 2016].”
After suffering an injury early on during the 2015 season, Pedrosa ended the season strongly winning in Japan and Malaysia.
The Spaniard has finished runner-up in MotoGP on three previous occasions – in 2007, 2010, and 2012.
Michelin confirmed after the post-season test in Valencia that they would be making some alterations to the front tyres.
