After spending his debut season in Moto GP riding the Forward Yamaha, Frenchman Loris Baz says he was ‘very proud’ with his debut season in the premier class of motorcycle road racing.
Baz battled with Spaniard Hector Barbera for the Open class championship, with a best finish of fourth in Misano, the best finish by an Open class rider during the season. Baz missed out on the Open class championship eventually finishing five points behind Barbera.
In an interview with the official Moto GP website, Baz said: “Yes, honestly speaking I’m really proud of my season, coming into MotoGP was a big challenge for me, and I’m happy to have achieved such a good season! Fighting for the Open title until the end was something I wasn’t expecting just a year ago!”
Baz will drive for the Avintia Racing team in 2016 alongside Héctor Barberá. The Frenchman says his aim for next season is to fight for the top ten positions. With the elimination of the ‘open class’ in 2016, many expect the Moto GP field to be much more competitive.
“With the new electronic rules and the new tyres the target is to fight for the top 10. Again it’s a big challenge but I think we can do it!”
