Racing Engineering To Run GP3 Runner-Up At Abu Dhabi Test

Racing Engineering has announced their line-up for the end of season GP2 test in Abu Dhabi.

The Spanish racing team who guided Fabio Leimer to GP2 championship glory in 2013 have announced that they are going to run Luca Ghiotto, Sergey Sirotkin, Norman Nato alongside 2015 Racing Engineering driver Jordan King.

Luca Ghiotto finished a very close runner-up to 2015 GP3 Champion Esteban Ocon. He claimed six pole positions and five race victories, missing out on the championship by just eight points. The Italian is rumoured to be joining the Ferrari Young Driver Academy in 2016 to replace GP2 racer Raffaele Marciello. If he impresses at this test, a seat in GP2 is extremely likely for the fast Italian.

Sergey Sirotkin was the most impressive rookie in GP2 this season, so it is no surprise that a top GP2 team like Racing Engineering are looking to him to fill the big shoes of Alexander Rossi, who is very likely to leave the team. Sergey’s 2015 tailed off towards the end, but if he signs with Racing Engineering or another top GP2 team, he will surely go into 2016 as one of the main title contenders.

Norman Nato also showed a huge amount of speed in his rookie year, easily faster than team mate- Andre Negrao who had one more year of GP2 experience than the Frenchman. However, Norman was involved in too many accidents right from the first round in Bahrain where he caused a multi-car pileup. If Nato wants to remain in GP2 next season he will have to sort his race-craft out.

Finally, Jordan King is testing the Racing Engineering in all three days of the test, this is a clear indication that the Englishman will be staying on at the Spanish outfit for a second season. The young Manor driver brings a lot of finical backing and has impressed the team in his rookie season finishing the season in 10th including a podium in Belgium.

Racing Engineering is running Sirotkin on Wednesday, Ghiotto on Thursday, and Nato on Friday while Jordan King will be running on all three days.
