Mexico City ePrix confimed for March 12

Mexico City has confirmed it will host the fifth round of the 2015/16 Formula E championship next year.

The calendar was launched with a ‘TBA’ date, long rumoured to have been Mexico City after the series wasn’t happy with the way the race was organised in Miami. Taking place on March 12th 2016, the cars will race on a revised version of the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez circuit, the same venue recently used and updated for Formula One.

Using the oval circuit as a basis, two additional chicanes will be added before turn one, along the back straight and mid way around the newly renamed ‘Mansell’ corner. The stadium section used in Formula One will also be changed.

Confirmation of the event will formally take place next month at the World Motor Sport Council meeting and tickets will go on sale December 7th at just €19 with seating for 40,000 fans.

Having seen the success of the Formula One race at the circuit a couple of weeks ago, series CEO Alejandro Agag said, “We are delighted to be taking Formula E to Mexico City. This is one of the world’s great cities, with a rich heritage and passion for motorsport. I’m confident the fans will create an amazing atmosphere and make the Mexico City ePrix one of the most memorable races of the season.”
