Berlin ePrix location could be changed due to refugees

The Berlin ePrix venue could be changed before the event next May, motorsport.com has reported.

Last year, the race was held at the former Tempelhof Airport, which although now out of commission as a working airfield is now one of the largest green spaces in central Berlin. The track was custom made around the former terminal and its characteristic roof where there had been plans to revise the layout and take away chicanes at the end of the lap. Motorsport.com has learned the venue could be under threat as the area could be used to house migrants from Syria and Northern Africa. Germany has been a driving force for allowing larger numbers of refugees into Europe, with many looking at the country as a favourable destination and have already been using Templehof as housing.

According to the article, other venues are being studied for the race, although the proposed race in Switzerland is unlikely to be used as a replacement.
