Rosberg dominates in Mexico to take fourth win of 2015

Nico Rosberg dominated from pole position to win the Mexican Grand Prix at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez ahead of Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton and Williams’ Valtteri Bottas.

Rosberg led into turn one and controlled the race from the off. Hamilton maintained second place on the opening lap ahead of Red Bull’s Daniil Kvyat. Sebastian Vettel and Daniel Ricciardo collided leaving the Ferrari driver with a puncture. The stewards decided no further action was warranted.

Bottas began to pressurise Daniel Ricciardo for fourth while Felipe Massa began to chase down Max Verstappen.

The Williams duo pitted on lap nine and ten respectively suggesting they were opting for a two-stop strategy. Nico Hulkenberg also pitted.

Sebastian Vettel’s race went from bad to worse as he spun at turn seven, flat spotting his front tyres. Daniil Kvyat pitted from third on lap 23 and maintained his net third place ahead of Valtteri Bottas and Felipe Massa.

Bottas began is assault on Kimi Raikkonen, attempting an overtake at turn four. The pair collided once again, just like in Austin, this time it was Raikkonen who came off worst and was forced to retire due to a suspension problem. Once again, the stewards warranted no further action against either driver.

The Mercedes’ pitted both of their drivers on lap 47 and 49 for a second time. Hamilton questioned if this was necessary as his team argued it was due to ‘safety’ and heavy tyre wear.

The first and only safety car was deployed on lap 52 after Sebastian Vettel spun at turn seven. Everyone other than the two Mercedes’ and Sergio Perez pitted for fresh tyres.

Upon the restart, Valtteri Bottas overtook Daniil Kvyat for third where he would remain until the end of the race.

Nico Rosberg maintained his lead over Hamilton to take his fourth win of 2015 ahead of Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas.

Daniil Kvyat fought off teammate Daniel Ricciardo and Williams’ Felipe Massa for fourth, fifth and sixth. Hulkenberg came home seventh ahead of home hero Sergio Perez, Max Verstappen and Romain Grosjean.

Fernando Alonso retired from the race on the opening lap while Felipe Nasr was forced to retire due to a brake failure.
