Impossible to get close to Rosberg – Hamilton

Lewis Hamilton says it was ‘impossible’ for him to get close to Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg and challenge him for victory in Mexico at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez.

Hamilton qualified second behind teammate Rosberg and was unable to pass him at the start of the Grand Prix.

Rosberg controlled the race from the front and never looked like losing the lead to his teammate, who was recently crowned 2015 world champion in Austin last weekend.

“It was a good race; the team did a great job, Nico drove really well, he made no mistakes, but it’s very difficult to follow [another car] here,” explained Hamilton in the FIA post-race press conference.

Hamilton explained as soon as you get close to another car, you just lose aero meaning it is very difficult to overtake.

“I was pushing the whole way, but you just can’t follow… as soon as you get a few car lengths behind you lose the aero and he had perfect aero, so it was impossible to get close enough.

“I had good pace, but as soon as you get closer you lose downforce.”
