Red Bull driver Daniil Kvyat believes fourth on the grid reflects the true speed of the RB11.
Kvyat will start fourth ahead of teammate Daniel Ricciardo and the Williams duo of Valtteri Bottas and Felipe Massa.
The Russian admits he could have gone a couple of tenths quicker but says Sebastian Vettel in third was out of reach in qualifying.
“Qualifying was interesting today. It was all quite clean in Q1 and Q2, but the track is new and it’s very easy to make a little mistake that can be quite costly, so perhaps no one had the ideal lap in Q3. I think P4 reflects our speed; I could have maybe been a couple of tenths quicker in Q3 but anyway it wouldn’t have put us any higher, as P3 was quite a long way ahead.
Kvyat challenged Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton for the victory during the early parts of the US Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas in wet conditions. The Russian eventually crashed out of the race after making a mistake at the penultimate corner.
Kvyat says he just wants to have a clean, consistent race after a disappointing race in Austin last weekend.
“I’m not setting our expectations too high; I just want to have a good, clean, consistent race and grab some good points.”
