Ericsson left frustrated with Q2 performance

Sauber’s Marcus Ericsson was left frustrated after qualifying at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez.

Ericsson qualified 14th for the Mexican Grand Prix and despite qualifying ahead of teammate Nasr, he was frustrated by the performance of his Sauber in Q2.

The Swede felt he got the maximum from his car in Q1 but struggled in Q2. Sauber have traditionally struggled with grip at the rear of the car hence their poor pace in wet conditions in Austin.

“We have done a solid job improving the balance of the car over the weekend. I have been struggling in the free practice session, and I did not feel comfortable in the car. P14 is a decent result, but I am still a bit frustrated because in Q1 I got the maximum out of the car, but then in Q2 I struggled a bit more, especially in the last sector due to not having enough grip at the rear. However, it is important that we make progress session by session.”

Ericsson’s teammate, Felipe Nasr will start 15th rather than 17th due to the penalties given to Kimi Raikkonen and Fernando Alonso.
