The opening race of the second season of Formula E, due to take place in on the 17th October in Beijing will be postponed a week to the 24th October, CEO Alejandro Agag has confirmed.
The decision was made to delay the ePrix by a week due to other activities that are taking place at the adjacent Olympic Park on the same weekend.
Making a statement on the Formula E website, Agag confirmed the decision:
While it is regrettable that the date of the opening race has had to be delayed by one week, we understand the logistical difficulties in staging conflicting events.
Together with our partners and the authorities, we, therefore decided that the best course of action was to move our race by one week. We remain confident that despite the date change the Beijing ePrix will provide for a spectacular start to the second season of our championship.
A delay of a week will mean a date clash with the United States Grand Prix, although as the events will take place on opposite sides of the world, there won’t be a time clash.
The Formula E race will be in the morning (CET) and the USGP qualifying will take place in the afternoon (CET).
The rescheduling also means there will be a reduced gap between the Beijing race and the ePrix in Malaysia. This gap will be shortened from three weeks to two, and becomes one of the shorter gaps on the calendar.
