Frijns desperate to drive for Andretti in Beijing

Dutch driver Robin Frijns says he is desperate to drive for Amlin Andretti Formula E team at the season two opener in Beijing.

The former Formula Renault 3.5 champion tested for the Amlin Andretti team at Donington.

The Dutchman completed 37 laps following the switch to the season one powertrain for the final test day after failing to complete any laps on the penultimate day of testing.

“I really hope so, it’s not my decision. I really want to drive for this team, they are really professional and I like working for them. Let’s wait and see!” Frijns said in an interview with the official Formula E website.

Despite the Formula E car being significantly slower to other machinery he has driven in the past, Frijns said he enjoyed the experience of driving a Formula E car and the challenge of managing the battery and energy storage is a tough challenge.

“It’s a bit slower than other series I’m used to, but it’s a fun car to drive. It’s got all that technology behind you and a lot of things to play with on the steering wheel. The battery management and regeneration is a completely different challenge.”

Season two of the FIA Formula E series kicks off next month in Beijing.
