Patric Niederhauser to drive for Lazarus in Monza

Swiss driver Patric Niederhauser joins forces with Daiko Team Lazarus for the upcoming race weekend in Monza, Italy.

The 23-year-old will replace Frenchman Nathanael Berthon, and make his debut in the GP2 Series alongside veteran Sergio Canamasas. The Spaniard is the replacement for Zoel Amberg, who has been unable to race since Round 4 in Austria due to an injury.

“I am extremely happy about my debut in the GP2 Series in Monza with Daiko Team Lazarus next weekend”, says Niederhauser.

“I’m ready for this opportunity. It will be an enormous challenge with many new challenging things. I am very grateful with those who offered me this possibility and I will give it my all to achieve as much as possible. A big thank you to all the people who made this debut possible at the last moment as well as to my sponsors and supporters.”

The Swiss began his career in karting in 2006 and drove in national karting series until 2009. In the following year, Niederhauser switched to single-seaters and competed in the new Formula Abarth Series in Italy.

He finished his debut season as runner-up with one race victory and five third places to his name. He remained with Jenzer Motorsport in the following year, where he won the Italian championship ahead of Sergey Sirotkin with eight race wins.

In the following winter, Niederhauser took part in the GP3 Series tests with Jenzer Motorsport and was signed for the 2012 season, which he finished in seventh place in the championship as the highest-placed driver of the team. In that year, the Swiss also competed in three Italian Formula 3 events and claimed a race win.

In 2013, Niederhauser remained with Jenzer Motorsport in GP3; however, he struggled after two podiums in the first race weekend and finished the season only in 13th place.

In addition to his GP3 commitment, the Swiss took part in the European Le Mans Series, starting in the LMP2 class in four out of five races, and he also made his debut at the 24 Hours of Le Mans with Race Performance. After the disappointing season in GP3, Niederhauser changed teams and joined Arden International in 2014. He finished the season in 10th place with two race wins.

This year, Niederhauser has made a switch to sports cars, competing in the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo with Raton racing, and now the 23-year-old returns to single seater racing to make his debut in the GP2 Series.
