Williams’ Head of Vehicle Performance, Rob Smedley, says the Williams FW37 is clearly the second fastest car to Mercedes in dry conditions.
The team were looking to secure 2nd and 3rd place before the rain came at Silverstone, before Nico Rosberg and Sebastian Vettel overtook both as the conditions worsened.
Speaking to F1i, Smedley said “I think the weekend on the whole for us was really, really positive. We expected the car to be good, all the upgrades that we’ve done with the car and all the development worked really, really well.”
Williams are currently 3rd in the Constructors Championship with 151 points, 60 behind Ferrari who lie 2nd, and 88 ahead of Red Bull in 4th.
“It’s the first weekend I think since the start of the season, even though we’ve been inching closer, where we’ve been clearly faster than our closest competitor, Ferrari. We were faster in qualifying, and we had a similar pace advantage in the race whilst it was dry.”
