marciello2Ferrari Academy member Raffaele Marciello has made the switch from Racing Engineering to Trident for his second season of GP2.

“Lello”, 20, made the step up to GP2 in 2014 after winning the European F3 Championship in 2013. Despite showing some very impressive pace, bad luck hindered Marciello’s chances of winning the title, and it wouldn’t be until Belgium that the popular Italian picked up his first win.

In 2015, he will combine his racing duties in GP2 with a reserve role at the Sauber Formula 1 team.

“I am absolutely delighted for the agreement reached with Trident,” said Marciello in a press release.

“I have been able to feel their trust and interest straight away and I really appreciated their attention towards me and my driving style.

“Given this strong reciprocal interest, I am sure we will be able to work in great harmony with the goal of achieving the best possible results.

“I know that there is a lot of work to do but, also thanks to the support of Ferrari and FDA, I think we have what it takes to succeed.”

Maurizio Salvadori, team boss of Trident, added: “By reaching this agreement, I can say I fulfilled one of the dreams I have been chasing for a long time.

“The dream of having an extraordinarily capable Italian racer like Raffaele in our GP2 team.

“We, as Trident, will do our utmost in order to provide our contribution to Lello’s career, as he has the chance to finally bring the Italian banner back to the Formula 1 grids.”

Lello is the seventh driver to be confirmed for GP2 in 2015.
