Williams team principal Sir Frank Williams is in hospital for this weekend’s American Grand Prix for treatment on a pressure sore on his back.
An accident in 1986 left the now 72-year-old a quadriplegic; and is said to be recovering well from routine treatment and is responding well.
Deputy team principal of Williams, Sir Frank’s daughter, Claire, will also not be attending this race this weekend in Austin, Texas to be with her father.
Claire will be at next weekend’s Brazilian Grand Prix for the last two races of the 2014 season.
Sir Frank has ran his own team since 1977, a team owner since 1969 and is one of the most respected men in the Formula One paddock. Williams are one of the most successful teams in the sports history.
Under the head of Sir Frank, Williams have won seven drivers’ championships and nine constructors championship. Their last win was the 2012 Spanish Grand Prix with Pastor Maldonado.
Williams are currently third in the constructors championship, in a tight battle with Ferrari for who will finish third at the end of the season.
