felipe_massa_williams-2160262Felipe Massa hopes that new team Williams, are able to beat Ferrari, his former team. Massa left Ferrari last season, and was replaced by the returning Kimi Raikkonen to the team, and ultimately, Massa found himself driving for Williams in 2014.

Taking the Williams seat was a gamble for Massa considering the struggles they have had in recent years, but the new regulations seemed to have worked in the teams favour. Also, with Ferrari currently struggling with the new regulations, it seems like moving teams may not have been so bad for the Brazilian.

But after a string of first lap retirements and bad luck, Massa thinks Williams have what it takes to overhaul Ferrari.

“I think so [when asked if Williams can challenge Ferrari],” he told Brazil’s Sportv.

“It was very important for me. Sometimes a change does you good,” said Massa, “I needed it even if some things did not all fit together yet.

“But it will (fit), and I think we can have a very positive future with this new team,” he added.

Although Massa has been outshone by team-mate Valtteri Bottas this season, he has insisted that he is happy to be battling with Ferrari in the constructors. Ever since Fernando Alonso joined the Italians back in 2010, Massa has had to play second fiddle to Alonso, but is now able to fight against them when he can, with no team orders.

After losing third to Ferrari in the constructors last time out at the Hungarian GP, Massa has said that Williams fight is solely with Ferrari.

“Our fight now is with Ferrari.

“We were in front until the last race and Ferrari had a better race than Williams, but the chance to finish the year ahead of Ferrari is very large. That’s what we want.

“To be able to come up in one year into the top three, ahead of a big team like Ferrari, is very positive,” he added.
