getimage.aspNico Rosberg took the chequered flag in the picturesque Austrian Red Bull Ring. The weather for the race was the best of the weekend with the temperature  being far higher than practice on Friday. This meant the expected one stop race was converted to a two stopper. Pole man Massa lead the way through the early stages of the race from team mate Bottas who was later passed by Rosberg. The big gainer from the start however was Lewis Hamilton who gained five places in the first lap. He began with a good start passing two off the line and then moved on two Danial Ricciardo who he passed on the exit of turn one, then he took Magnussen on the straight to turn two and finally passed Alonso at turn eight.   World Champion Sebastian Vettel had further problems with yet another retirement. Vettel lost drive for a period of time allowing him to be lapped and then regained drive. Vettel also crashed into Gutierez, who has a ten place penalty for next race due to the unsafe release in the race, breaking his front wing. This eventually lead to Vettel being fifty seconds off last place and then Red Bull made the tactical decision to retire the car to avoid stressing parts that they cannot afford to lose. Rosberg pushed to pass the Williams for the whole of the first stint but couldn’t find a way past. However in the stops Rosberg, who pitted a couple of laps before Williams made the jump into the lead. Lewis Hamilton also passed Massa in this stop moving into third. Williams did there best to keep Rosberg behind Bottas by doing the fastest stop of the season at 2.1 seconds just two tenths off the Red Bull fastest ever stop. Rosberg came out into traffic and ended up following Sergio Perez for a significant period of time.  This prevented him from getting away from the drivers behind, Bottas and Hamilton. Hamilton continued to try and pass Bottas for that stint however never managed to get past due to Bottas having DRS for most of the stint and the fact the Williams has one of the fastest cars in straight line. getimage-1.aspHamilton did manage to get the jump over Bottas at the stops due to pitting early and using the undercut.   For the next thirty laps it was a matter of Hamilton working out where and how to catch and pass Rosberg. However Rosberg managed to keep out of DRS range for the remainder of the race until the last lap of the race. A lap or two more could have lead to a different outcome. Williams taking third and fourth is a boost for the team in terms of the constructors championship bringing them close McLaren and Force India. In two weeks time the f1 circus goes again, at Silverstone where Hamilton will be aiming to get back to winning ways as Rosberg is continuing to streak ahead.
