Mercedes Lewis Hamilton singled himself out as one of the hot favourites for P1 in the upcoming Qualifying session as he set the pace in the final practice session for Formula 1’s Canadian Grand Prix.

However, the surprise of the session is the Briton was only just under half a second quicker than Williams of Massa as the Brazilian raised the hopes of a possible podium at Canada.

Hamilton’s Mercedes mate… correction team mate Nico Rosberg was third quickest at the end of the final practice session which probably means nothing as I’m sure we shall see a closer qualifying session.

Interestingly, Mercedes did their best time on the soft tyres and not the super softs, read into that what you will, surly not a case of sandbagging in free practice?

Ferrari continue to play catch up with the Mercedes F1 team, Fernando Alonso 4th and 6th placed Raikkonen, an encouraging sign for any Ferrari fan as this may be the turning point in what has been a low key season for Ferrari.

Daniel Ricciardo managed to split the two Ferrari’s in his Red Bull for 5th place, while his slower team mate (world champion team-mate) Vettel rounded out the top 10.

A  handful of drivers struggled to control their cars under breaking into the turn 10 hairpin and locked up into the run-off area, fortunately unharmed.

The session was red-flagged early on in the 15th minute into the session after Gutierrez lost control of his Sauber and spun under braking for Turn 3 and caused the mechanics a headache after slamming into the outside wall.
