Marc Marquez Injury Photo Posted To End Arm Speculation

The Marc Marquez injury photo that swept social media last week was posted with one aim — to stop the questions. The reigning MotoGP champion shared a shirtless gym image showing the extent of the muscle wastage in his right shoulder, and on Thursday at the San Marino Grand Prix he explained why.

Why the Marc Marquez injury photo was posted

“I posted that photo because I believed it’s the best way to stop talking about my arm,” Marquez told the official MotoGP website, in comments reported by Crash.net. “What I’ve learned in my career is that when there are question marks, rumours, speculation, if you are honest, everything is easier.

“I knew, and I know what I have. But like this, you already have the picture; you already have the interview from my doctor. And like this, I’m fully focused on trying to fight with what I have in this amazing championship.”

The damage dates to the start of last year’s Indonesian Grand Prix, where Marquez was collected by Marco Bezzecchi. Two operations have followed, the most recent two months ago. His surgeon, Dr Samuel Antuna, recently revealed the bicep is working at only 50 per cent capacity — and that the crash “changed everything” about how the Ducati rider can ride.

Alex Marquez backs his brother

Gresini’s Alex Marquez said the post should be read as a full stop rather than an excuse. “It can become tiring to answer the same question at every grand prix. So, you publish the photo, and that settles the matter,” he told Motorsport.com. “With a photo, they cannot speculate.”

Marquez arrives at Misano off a perfect Aragon double, still chasing championship leader Jorge Martin with the season entering its closing stretch.
