- F1 heads to Miami this weekend, with Hamilton aiming for a breakthrough.
- Stats show his Miami record and Ferrari’s results vs Mercedes at the venue.
- Considering Ferrari’s record, a new venue may offer a better opportunity.
Formula 1 heads into its fourth round this weekend with the return of the Miami Grand Prix. The race comes five weeks after the previous outing, which took place in Japan.
Last year, Oscar Piastri of McLaren took the win despite Max Verstappen securing pole in qualifying. And while Verstappen remains the ‘winningest’ driver at the venue, fans are waiting for Lewis Hamilton’s comeback too. He had finished P8 after starting from P12 in last year’s race.
Hamilton’s best chance for a Grand Prix victory
Hamilton’s last Grand Prix win came in 2024 at the Belgian Grand Prix during the final season of his stint with Mercedes. Since then, he has moved to Ferrari’s Scuderia outfit, and after ending 2025 without a single appearance on a Grand Prix podium, marking the first season of his career without a top-three finish, he broke that run by finishing third at the 2026 Chinese Grand Prix, his best result with the team so far. After three starts, he sits fourth in the standings table.
But while fans may hope to see him return to the top step in Miami, probably with a win, the numbers show a gloomy side. Among tracks where his success rate is low, Lewis Hamilton has never won in Miami, the Netherlands, or Las Vegas.
He has recorded one podium each at Zandvoort and the Las Vegas Strip Circuit, but at the Miami International Autodrome, he has yet to reach the top three, with results of three P6 finishes and one P8 across the event’s four editions.
Besides that, Ferrari’s showing relative to Mercedes at Miami is a 0.27% lap-time deficit.
Looking at Hamilton’s career record, the 41-year-old has achieved his highest win rate at his home circuit of Silverstone, where he has taken P1 in 45% of his starts. His nine British Grand Prix wins from 20 entries stand as a record for the track and across all circuits, marking the highest number of wins by a driver at a single venue.
Canada and Hungary also rank high on his list, with win rates of 44% and 42% at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve and the Hungaroring, where he has won seven and eight times, respectively.
Where can Lewis Hamilton and Ferrari combined succeed?
When Hamilton’s track record is weighed against Ferrari’s performance gap, the Hungaroring would be the venue where he may hold his best chance of victory, as it aligns with one of his strongest tracks and stands as Ferrari’s second-closest circuit to Mercedes in terms of lap time difference.
On the other end of the scale, Spa-Francorchamps, where Hamilton took his last win in 2024, ranks low on this measure. Ferrari has not claimed a win in Belgium since Charles Leclerc’s maiden victory there in 2019.
As for this weekend’s Miami Grand Prix, the outlook points toward a lower chance of success for Hamilton.
