- Hocevar made biggest move in standings, swapping spots with 23XI Racing driver.
- Hendrick Motorsports saw mixed results at Talladega, causing shifts in standings.
- Bowman posted his best finish of the season after returning from medical break.
The tenth race of the NASCAR Cup Series schedule is done and dusted, and Carson Hocevar had reason to celebrate after breaking through for his first Cup Series win at Talladega Superspeedway on Sunday in the Jack Link’s 500, starting from P12. Hocevar was among the 16 cars that came out of the stage two “big one” in one piece and lined up for the restart on the lead lap.
Beyond putting points on the board, Hocevar’s win also moved him up four spots from where he stood before the race, pushing him into the top 10 in the standings.
Carson Hocevar trades places with the 23XI driver
23XI Racing’s Tyler Reddick has led the standings all season, opening the year by becoming the first driver in Cup Series history to start a season with three wins on the trot. He has taken five wins from nine races in 2026, while no other driver has reached more than one.
He went into the 2.66-mile oval with a 105-point cushion over Joe Gibbs Racing’s Denny Hamlin, leaving no path for him to lose the points lead this weekend with only 75 points on offer.
And that’s exactly what happened. Reddick crossed the line in P14, while Hamlin came home in P15, and both drivers held station at the top of the standings.
The biggest shake-up came from Carson Hocevar. He ended Stage 1 at Talladega in P16 and Stage 2 in P12, which left him without any stage points. However, the race win brought in 55 points, lifting him from P12 to P8. At the same time, Bubba Wallace, who came into the race in P8, slipped to P12 after a P36 finish.
William Byron, who stood at P7, also lost ground, dropping four spots and falling outside the top 10 after a P35 result at Talladega. Toward the front, Chase Elliott moved up two spots with a P4 finish, collecting 35 points, while Kyle Larson slid from P5 to P6 after finishing last in the race.
RFK Racing’s Chris Buescher also made his presence felt, going toe-to-toe with Hocevar in the closing laps, with Hocevar getting a push from Alex Bowman and Austin Dillon. As the field went to the checkered flag, Zane Smith and Dillon made contact, sending Dillon into the wall and triggering chaos behind the leaders.
Hocevar broke clear at the right moment and drove away to the win. Buescher crossed the line in second, marking his best finish at the track, ahead of Bowman, who avoided trouble and recorded his best result of the season after returning two weeks ago from a four-race layoff due to vertigo.
With that run, Buescher picked up 50 points, climbed four spots in the standings, and now sits in P7.
