Ferrari has unveiled its SF-23 Formula 1 car for the 2023 season as the Italian team bids to end a 15-year wait for a world championship.
Having gone two consecutive seasons without a victory for the first time since 1993, Ferrari returned to winning ways last year amid the dawn of the major regulation changes.
Two wins from the opening three races handed Ferrari an early lead in the both world championships, leaving the team on track to win a first title since 2008.
But several factors, including reliability issues, strategy and on-track errors and poor development, culminated in Ferrari slipping more than 200 points adrift of world champions Red Bull by the end of the season.
Ferrari would win two more races in Britain and Austria before failing to win any of the remaining 11 grand prix’s.
The Scuderia is now pinning its hopes on an improved package for 2023, which has largely focused on improving the reliability problems it suffered through the year.
Named the SF-23, Ferrari’s 2023 challenger has been coated in the iconic red livery, while the black front and rear wings remain from its 2022 colour scheme with the addition of the famous ‘F-Lunga’ design seen on last year’s one-off celebration livery at the Italian Grand Prix.
Ferrari retains its driver line-up of 2022 title runner-up Charles Leclerc and one-time grand prix winner Carlos Sainz for a third successive campaign, marking the first all-winning Ferrari pairing since 2020.
Following the departure of Mattia Binotto over the off-season, Ferrari is now headed by new team principal Fred Vasseur who joins from his previous post at Alfa Romeo.
The SF-23 will undergo a shakedown at Fiorano ahead of pre-season testing, with the three-day test at the Bahrain International Circuit running from February 23-25.
