Aston Martin has become the latest team to present its 2023 Formula 1 car as it revealed the AMR23 ahead of the new season.
The Silverstone-based squad made a slow start to life under F1’s new technical regulations, but a mid-season upgrade package saw a major upswing in performance.
Having been bottom of the constructors’ championship after three races, Aston Martin recovered to finish P7 by the end of the year – only missing out on sixth to Alfa Romeo on count back.
Under owner Lawrence Stroll, Aston Martin harbours high ambitions to move its way up the grid, a fact proven by the arrival of key technical staff over the past 18 months.
There has also been a big investment in a new factory at its Silverstone base and a state-of-the-art wind tunnel that is set to be ready by 2024.
Aston Martin’s 2023 car features a British racing green livery, adopted since it returned to F1 for the first time in over 60 years in 2021, and some radical changes to its package.
The AMR23 is the first Aston Martin car to be designed by technical director Dan Fallows since his arrival from Red Bull last year and deputy TD Eric Blandin.
Despite losing the experience and championship pedigree of Sebastian Vettel following the four-time world champion’s retirement at the end of last year, Aston Martin has poached another world champion in the form of Fernando Alonso from Alpine.
Alonso joins the British manufacturer off the back of an impressive 2022 season, finishing in the top-10 of the drivers’ standings for a second straight year and qualifying on the front row in Canada.
Aston Martin is hopeful the 41-year-old can push team-mate Lance Stroll to greater heights as the Canadian prepares for his seventh season in F1 since debuting for Williams in 2017.
A shakedown run for the AMR23 is planned ahead of the start of pre-season testing in Bahrain, which begins from February 23-25.
