Lewis Hamilton is approaching a key stage of his career after revealing that he is plotting his next five and 10-year plan ahead of fresh contract talks with Mercedes.
At 35 years of age, Hamilton is going in search of his seventh World Drivers’ Championship title as he continues to dominate the sport.
However, despite all of the success that he has achieved in Formula One, there still appears to be an element of under-appreciation with Hamilton and where he ranks among some of the great British sports stars of this generation.
Hamilton has won the BBC Sport Personality of the Year award just once during his career and when compared to somebody like Andy Murray, he is given much less fandom when compared to the 32-year-old Tennis star, who has won the aforementioned BBC award three times, while also winning the BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year award in 2004.
Winning six straight World Constructors’ Championship titles with Mercedes, nobody has managed to come close to the Stevenage-born driver in some time. However, with younger drivers like Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc coming up through the ranks, backing Hamilton for more success with websites like sportsbetting24.in may no longer be the banker that it once was.
As well as the individual honours, Hamilton has been a huge success financially too. Back in 2015, he was named as the richest British sportsperson, with an estimated worth of a whopping £88 million.
While Murray’s Wimbledon and Olympic success may be the more high-profile events, few British sports stars have enjoyed such a strong stranglehold on their sports quite like Hamilton has during the prime years of his career and he might be someone that supporters don’t truly appreciate until he finally calls it a day with Formula One.
