Toro Rosso has opted to fit in a new gearbox in the back of Daniil Kvyat’s car ahead of the Belgian Grand Prix.
As a result of this action, the Russian will incur a five-place grid penalty due to his original gearbox not completing the mandatory six racing events.
Other drivers to have taken a new gearbox include Lewis Hamilton, Sebastian Vettel, Charles Leclerc, Max Verstappen, Daniel Ricciardo, Nico Hulkenberg, Kimi Raikkonen and Robert Kubica.
However, all of these drivers completed six races with their previous gearbox and so none will incur any penalties for this action.
The action has no impact on Kvyat’s starting position given that he will start from the back of the grid after taking further grid penalties for additional power unit elements.
Kvyat will be joined by former team-mate Alexander Albon, who makes his debut for Red Bull, Lance Stroll and Carloz Sainz, who all have new power unit elements as well.
Renault pairing Ricciardo and Hulkenberg have both taken a new internal combustion engine, adding a further five-place grid penalty to their respective totals.
