Red Bull takes the front row for the Mexico GP with a magnificient pole by Daniel Ricciardo followed by Max Verstappen at P2. As speculated, Red Bull had an amazing pace at Austin and that has stuck with them in Mexico too. Apart from the excessive down force that the drivers are getting here, the cars with inferior engines have produced comparatively better results at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez with the high altitude resulting in thinner air.
Championship rivals, Hamilton and Vettel take the second row with P3 and P4 resp. Both the Mercedes cars were a bit off-pace today as compared to Ferrari. Bottas faced a hydraulic failure in FP3 and as a result had to get the engine replaced with the one they used in Austin. He will take the third row at P5 along with Kimi at P6. Renault showed great pace again and were the best of the rest with Hulkenberg and Sainz at P7 and P8 resp.
Hamilton will surely put an end to the title run tomorrow, as for it to continue till Brazil Vettel would have to win the race at any cost. Unlike in Austin, though, Hamilton does not need to extend his points advantage in Mexico. He only needs to end the weekend with a 50-point lead, which means he will be champion even if he finishes as low as seventh and Vettel wins the race.
