Guanyu Zhou has qualified on pole for the opening race of the final European Formula 3 weekend in Hockenheim, with all three title contenders at the bottom end of the top 10.
Zhou set the fastest time of 1m32.335s, ahead of Hitech’s Alex Palou who will also start on the front row of the grid.
Robert Shvartzman qualified in third with Jehan Daruvala in fourth after spending much of the session sitting at the top of the timesheets and Juri Vips will start in fifth.
Points leader Mick Schumacher qualified in seventh just behind Prema team-mate Marcus Armstrong who still has an outside chance of taking the championship.
Dan Ticktum, who sits 49 points behind Schumacher going into the weekend qualified last of the battling trio in ninth.
Frederik Vesti separates the title contenders in eighth for Van Amersfoort Racing, with Sacha Fenestraz rounding out the top 10.
