Mick Schumacher extends his championship lead with a lights to flag victory as Dan Ticktum crashed out of the second race at the Red Bull Ring after a late safety car.
Having spent most of the race battling for position in the lower half of the top 10, Ticktum was fighting with Jehan Daruvala and Sacha Fenestraz in the closing minutes of the race.
They ran three abreast, with Ticktum in the middle of the two Carlin drivers. He made slight contact with Fenestraz, sending the Renault Academy driver pirouetting in front of his two race rivals.
Daruvala avoided contact with both drivers, but clattered the barriers to dodge the incident.
All three were forced to retire, calling out the third safety car of the race with just two laps remaining.
Schumacher, who had led from start to finish, took the chequered flag behind the safety car to score his eighth win of the season ahead of team-mates Marcus Armstrong and Robert Shwartzman.
Armstrong and Shwartzman ran side by side off the line, with Armstrong managing to retain his P2 position before the first safety car of the day – brought out by Keyvan Andres and Sebastian Fernandez colliding – neutralised the battle.
The three Prema drivers spread out in the middle stage of the race, but Armstrong was beginning to close in on Schumacher when the second safety car of the race was brought out after Alex Palou and Artem Petrov collided.
The safety car allowed Armstrong to close onto the back of Schumacher but, when the race restarted with less than three minutes remaining, it was Shwartzman on the attack. The two Ferrari juniors ran side by side, but Armstrong was able to hold off attacks to take second.
Juri Vips picked up fourth after an early battle with Jonathan Aberdein and Fenestraz. Ralf Aron finished fifth, ahead of Aberdein, Fabio Scherer and Ferdinand Habsburg.
Guanyu Zhou and Sophia Florsch completed the top 10, with Floresch taking her first Formula 3 point.
