Title challengers disqualified after GP3 Monza sprint

GP3 points leader Anthoine Hubert and drivers’ championship rival Callum Ilott have been disqualified from the Monza sprint race results after having lower tyre pressures than allowed.

Each racer’s left-rear Pirelli tyre was found to be under this amount when analysed after the contest.

Ilott denied Hubert to claim a third-straight third place on track, as he initially cut the Frenchman’s lead to 27 points by finishing one place ahead.

Both drivers being removed means that the gap moves back to 29 points, while Nikita Mazepin overtakes Ilott for second position in the standings.

Mazepin is now classified as third from this event, with Jake Hughes and David Beckmann completing the top five.

Tatiana Calderon moves up to sixth for her best result of 2018 as Leonardo Pulcini and Simo Laaksonen round out the points finishers.

Richard Verschoor has a third-consecutive top 10 finish in ninth above MP team-mate Niko Kari.

Jannes Fittje now has his career-best series finish to date with 11th.

Devlin DeFrancesco had finished ahead of Fittje in the race but was given a 20-second time penalty afterwards for an incident between Gabriel Aubry and Juan Manuel Correa, dropping to 15th in the classification as a result.

Trident’s Pedro Piquet had earlier won the race above team-mate Giuliano Alesi.
