Juri Vips has taken pole in a very wet European F3 second qualifying session at Misano for Motopark, with Marcus Armstrong second fastest.
Vips was first to top the leaderboard amid thunder and lightning in the delayed session before a flurry of different drivers took the top spot as the track became drier.
Armstrong set a time nine-thousandths of a second faster than Vips and looked set to take pole before Vips set the pole time of 1m46.004s in the final seconds of the session.
Third went to race one winner Mick Schumacher, with Ralf Aron in fourth.
Ferdinand Habsberg ended up in fifth after briefly sitting in second and Hitech’s Alex Palou was in sixth.
Winner of the opening race of the season Guan Yu Zhou qualified in seventh with championship leader Dan Ticktum and Ben Hingeley completing the top 10.
Armstrong may have missed out on race two pole but he has secured first on the grid for race three, based on the drivers’ second fastest time.
Ralf Aron will join him on the front row, with Juri Vips and Guan Yu Zhou behind.
