Schumacher takes European F3 pole at Misano

Mick Schumacher takes pole position for the first European Formula 3 race at Misano as Prema lockout the front two rows.

Schumacher, who won the second race of the Silverstone round of the championship, was the first driver to go under 88 seconds with a 1m27.934s lap time late into qualifying.

Team-mates Marcus Armstrong and Guan Yu Zhou were also able to improve on their final laps but weren’t able to match Schumacher’s lap time. The pair qualified second and third respectively, also being the only two other drivers to go under 1m28s.

Armstrong, who is currently second in the drivers’ championship, will benefit from championship leader Dan Ticktum qualifying fifth. The two drivers are currently separated by 18 points heading into the Misano round.

The Prema lockout of the front two rows was completed by Robert Shwartzman, who was also able to improve on his last lap to eventually be 0.005s quicker than Ticktum.

Jehan Daruvala was the highest placed Carlin driver in sixth place while Ticktum’s Motopark team-mate Juri Vips, who won race three of the last round at Silverstone, will start race one at Misano in seventh.

He will be joined by Jonathan Aberdein on the fourth row of the grid, who recorded two podium finishes at Silverstone.

The top 10 was rounded off by Prema’s Ralf Aron and Motopark’s Sasha Fenetraz.

Enaam Ahmed, who is currently fourth in the championship, was able to qualify in 11th place.
