Ralf Aron expects his difficult weekend at Silverstone will “make its mark” on the European Formula 3 championship.
Aron was one of three Prema drivers to retire from the opening race of the weekend with tyre problems. The Estonian span in the closing stages of the race and beached the car in the gravel, bringing out the full course yellows.
Starting 13th in race two, Aron managed to climb up to 10th, salvaging a single point from a difficult Saturday at Silverstone.
“It’s a really tough weekend for us as a team and especially for me,” he told Read Motorsport.
“We’re struggling a lot with the car and the tyres, and everything that’s going on.
“It’s just survival for me.
“I managed to get one point from P13 by in the end, pace wise, I shouldn’t even have been there. I’m fighting hard but there’s not much I can do.”
Aron doesn’t expect the team to be able to resolve the problems before tomorrow’s race.
It’s been a mixed season for the Prema driver so far. A difficult weekend at Silverstone follows a difficult weekend at Spa. Aron had been leading the race before contact with Juri Vips knocked him out of the race.
Currently third in the championship standings, 2018 has so far been Aron’s best season to date, but the tough weekends could derail his title challenge.
“It’s been ok until now, let’s say. I had a really similar weekend – similar problems – in Budapest where I lost a lot of points because I got zero pretty much. And in Spa I was leading the race and got crashed out through no fault of my own. So I lost a lot of points but was still P3 and close to the championship, but this weekend is definitely going to make its mark in the championship.
“But nothing is lost and, as you can see, everyone can go up and down so anything can happen.”
