Red Bull junior Dan Ticktum set the pace in free practice ahead of the first European Formula 3 race of the weekend.
Ticktum was the only driver to set a time sub 1m50s on the international layout of the Silverstone circuit, setting his fastest lap – a 1m50.753s – in the closing minutes of the second free practice session.
Renault junior Sacha Fenestraz took second, just ahead of Motopark’s Jonathan Aberdein.
The trio spent the second free practice session swapping positions at the top of the times. Ticktum set the pace in the first half of the session with a 1m51.720s. He was on for an improvement, with purple first and second sectors when he locked up at the penultimate corner, ruining his lap time.
Aberdein briefly took the top spot before Ticktum’s late improvement.
Robert Shvartzmen finished P4, 0.438s off the pace, with championship leader Marcus Armstrong a further 0.1s back.
Mick Schumacher jumped to the top of the times late in the session before others found improvements, knocking him down to P6 ahead of Marino Sato, Juri Vips, Guanyu Zhou and Enaam Ahmed.
Ticktum dominated the first practice session, jumping to the top times in the first half of the 45 minute session where he was untouchable until the chequered flag. He ended FP1 with a 1m51.284s lap, half a second ahead of Fenestraz in second.
