Mick Schumacher led a Prema 1-2-3-4 in a wet second European Formula 3 qualifying at Spa.
With times tumbling as a drying line formed late in the session, Schumacher’s best time came as he took the chequered flag.
The German’s 2m10.899s, the result of a purple first sector, was almost three tenths of a second faster than team-mate Ralf Aron, who finished the session second quickest.
Guanyu Zhou had been sitting top of the times as the chequered flag fell, but dropped back to third as his team-mate’s improved. He starts race two alongside championship leader Marcus Armstrong, who also improved on his final lap of the session.
Enaam Ahmed was the first non-Prema driver in the standings, taking P5 ahead of Motopark duo Juri Vips and Fabio Scherer.
Robert Shvartzmen was briefly top of the times in the closing stages of the race, but couldn’t keep up with his team-mates’ improvements and had to settle for eighth.
Ferdinand Habsburg, the best of Carlin’s five drivers, was ninth quickest, with Dan Ticktum rounding out the top 10.
Race one pole sitter Jehan Daruvala ended the session 12th overall, behind Hitech’s Alex Palou.
