F3 Euro Series set for revival

Organisers of the European Formula 3 championship are set to revive the F3 Euro Series from next season, according to Autosport sources.

The current European F3 series, which was launched in 2012, will merge with the GP3 series to become the FIA’s International F3 championship from next year.

According to Autosport, European F3 organiser F3V has sent a brochure advertising the new proposed F3 Euro series to past and present F3 teams.

It’s understood the series – which would likely follow a similar calendar to the current championship – would keep the current cars for at least another year before switching to a new chassis in 2020.

F3V appears confident the new series will retain the same status as the current championship, with the brochure stating “F3 drivers are able to earn large portions of superlicense points”.

The current series offers 30 points for the championship winner and is ranked on the same level as Formula E.
