Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel matches Alain Prost’s 51 wins with victory in the 2018 British Grand Prix, while home hero Lewis Hamilton was forced to climb up from the back of the field.

Wheel spin at the race start put Hamilton fourth on the run to the first corner and, when he tried to overtake Kimi Raikkonen, the pair collided, sending the Mercedes into a spin.

Two safety car periods neutralised the field late in the race, leading to a thrilling dash to the flag with both Mercedes and both Ferraris battling for the lead. Vettel was able to edge ahead of Valtteri Bottas after pitting under the safety car.

Marcus Ericsson suffered a dramatic crash to bring out the first safety car after losing the rear of his Sauber, before Romain Grosjean and Carlos Sainz collided 15 laps before the chequered flag.
