Kimi Raikkonen has refused to rule out a return to McLaren next season with his Formula 1 future yet to be resolved, but remains coy on the prospect of a reunion with the team.
Speculation has surfaced that the Woking-based outfit is monitoring the Finn as a potential replacement for Fernando Alonso, with Raikkonen’s Ferrari contract expiring at the end of the current campaign.
The 2007 world champion drove at McLaren from 2002-2006, finishing runner-up in the drivers’ championship on two occasions, but Raikkonen stressed he has “zero interest” in discussing his future plans.
“I spoke to them [McLaren] in the past a lot as obviously I used to be there,” Raikkonen said when asked if he had held talks with McLaren over a 2019 seat.
“But I have zero interest in getting involved in all the nonsense. You usually write what you decide yourself, whether it’s true or not.
“But it’s the same as always every year, we’ll see.”
Raikkonen is currently in his second spell at Ferrari after re-signing for the team in 2014, but asked if his intention is to remain with the Scuderia, the 38-year-old said: “I don’t know really.
“I said I think it was 2007 already I would finish with Ferrari and obviously at some point it didn’t look like that and now it looks like that again. You never know what after and this and that.
“Let’s see. As always [there’s] a lot of talk, I don’t really have a lot to comment. Everybody will see at some point what happens, including me.”
