Brawn expects 2019 rule changes to be signed off next week

Ross Brawn believes 2019’s aerodynamic regulaitons will be signed off at the Strategy Group meeting next week.

The regulations are expected to improve overtaking with the introduction of the simplified front wing and brake ducts.

The initial concept was rushed through for the April 30th deadline, after which any changes would need unanimous support from all 10 teams. Earlier this month, the Technical Working Group met to agree details and close loop holes.

Team bosses are now expected to rubber stamp the agreement at the Strategy Group meeting on July 4th.

“The teams wanted to know what’s going on, and I think everyone has been cooperating,” Brawn told Autosport.

“It needed some refinement, which has been done. I think everyone realises that we don’t want uncertainty.

“As far as I know it’s all been sorted and we should be in good shape.”

One of the main concerns for some teams was the new brake duct regulations.

“I think the main point was applying the same rationale to the front and rear brake ducts,” Charlie Whiting explained. “That was something some teams were a little unhappy about, so we’ve set about rectifying that.”

If the regulations aren’t agreed formally, technical directives could be needed for clarification.
