Ahmed cruises to second victory of the day

Enaam Ahmed has taken victory from pole in the third Formula 3 European Championship race of the weekend at the Hungaroring.

Hitech-run Ahmed survived a first-corner battle with rivals Dan Ticktum and Marcus Armstrong to finish the race over seven seconds in front.

This makes Ahmed the first driver to take two victories in 2018 after he took his maiden European F3 win earlier in the day.

Another lightning start from Armstrong led to contact with Ticktum at the first corner, causing suspension damage which forced him to retire while Ticktum managed to retain his hold on second.

First lap drama allowed Mick Schumacher to make his way up from ninth to third, a position he held on to throughout the race despite the best attempts of Juri Vips to get by. The Estonian was forced to settle for fourth.

Later in the race Schumacher was able to close up the gap to Ticktum but never got close enough to make a move, although he still takes his second podium of his European F3 career.

Guan Yu Zhou finished in fifth after a steady but unspectacular weekend with Sacha Fenestraz in sixth.

Ralf Aron put in some good opening laps to jump from his starting position of 15th up to seventh.

Fabio Scherer finished in eighth although he is under investigation for a Full Course Yellow infringement. Jonathon Aberdein and Nikita Troitckii round out the top 10.

A botched getaway for Jehan Daruvla put him down towards the back of the grid from his starting position of fourth, but he made a spectacular comeback through the field to finish in 11th.
