Andrea Dovizioso will remain at Ducati for the next two years it was announced today, as the two parties finally came to a wage agreement.
Dovizioso and Ducati were always expected to continue together despite the 2017 MotoGP runner-up declining a reported 3.5 million euro offer recently offered by Ducati, after wanting a salary closer to that of the 12 million euros his current team-mate Jorge Lorenzo enjoys.
Dovizioso also held brief talks with Suzuki as well as Honda about potentially replacing Andrea Iannone or Dani Pedrosa next year, but continuing with Ducati was always the Italians preferred outcome.
Ducati’s announcement is the third of its kind this weekend, as Suzuki and Aprilia announced Alex Rins and Aleix Espargaro respectively would stay put for the next two years.
Dovizioso and Ducati currently sit fifth in the rider’s championship, 24 points behind current leader and 2017 MotoGP champion Marc Marquez.
Despite winning the opening race of the year at Losail in Qatar, the nine-time MotoGP winner has struggled to compete with Marquez so far this year.
Dovizioso lost a hat-full of points after clashing with Lorenzo and Pedrosa while in podium contention at the last round at Jerez, and heads into Le Mans this weekend looking to get back in the title chase.
