Lewis Hamilton claimed his second consecutive victory of the 2018 Formula 1 championship while a two-stop strategy cost Ferrari a possible podium finish.
Sebastian Vettel had already taken one lucky miss in Spain when a slow pit stop for Valtteri Bottas kept him ahead of the Mercedes, but a second stop for fresh tyres cost him two positions and put him behind Max Verstappen late in the race.
Verstappen went from zero to hero, taking his first podium of the season after a frustrating weekend in Baku, while a spin under the virtual safety car meant Daniel Ricciardo couldn’t take advantage of Vettel’s second stop.
Further down the order, Kevin Magnussen put Haas back in the “best of the rest” position after team-mate Romain Grosjean span on the opening lap, and both Spanish heroes finished inside the points.
