Conway fastest in Spa FP2

Mike Conway topped the times as Toyota dominated a red flag disrupted second practice session ahead of the 6 Hours of Spa.

Conway jumped to the top of the times early in the 90 minute session with a 1m56.172s lap, more than two seconds faster than Fernando Alonso’s best time from FP1.

The time remained unbeaten, though Kazuki Nakajima managed to lower the gap to just 0.643s in the #8 Toyota.

The best non-hybrid was the #10 Dragon Speed car. With rookie Pietro Fittipaldi behind the wheel, the BR Engineering BR1 managed a 1m58.835s, just two tenths of a second faster than the #3 Rebellion Racing car, piloted by Gustavo Menezes. Neel Jani in the sister Rebellion was a further half second back.

The SMP Racing duo finished sixth and seventh, with Stephane Sarrazin setting the team’s fastest lap before putting the car into the gravel and bringing out the first of two red flags just 30 minutes into the session.

The second red flag came 35 minutes later when Matthieu Vaxiviere in the TDS Racing Oreca came to a stop on track.

The ByKolles Racing Team’s #4 was the last LMP1 car to set a competitive lap time, with neither of the Manor Ginetta G60-LT-P1-Mecachromes completing more than one lap.

Dragon Speed was top of the order in the LMP2 class with Pastor Maldonado in the #31 car setting a time 0.315s faster than his closest rival, the Jackie Chan DC Racing #37, which was the fastest car on Dunlop tyres. The G-Drive #26, also on Dunlops, completed the class top three.

Stefan Mucke put his Ford Chip Ganassi Team UK Ford GT top of the LMGTE Pro class late in the session with a 2m13.733s, almost a second faster than Gianmaria Bruni in the Porsche GT Team’s #91.
