Techeetah’s Jean-Eric Vergne has claimed pole position for the Paris ePrix, extending his Formula E drivers’ championship lead to 21 points.
The Frenchman topped the timesheets with a lap of 1m01.144s with the last lap of superpole to lead by 0.277s, denying nearest title challenger Sam Bird, and giving him an additional three points.
This lap was an improvement of 0.364s from his previous attempt which allowed him to lead the first period of the session.
Vergne’s team-mate Andre Lotterer is set to lead the second row of the grid above Maro Engel, while Antonio Felix da Costa was the slowest of the fastest five.
Lotterer was the final driver to make it into the second session, with a tight gap of 0.084s separating himself and 10th with the drivers’ first efforts.
Audi’s Lucas di Grassi missed out by five thousandths, with Jerome d’Ambrosio and Sebastien Buemi seventh and eighth.
NIO’s Oliver Turvey and Dragon’s Jose Mario Lopez completed the top 10.
Felix Rosenqvist, who lies in third in the championship, was 11th above Nick Heidfeld and Nico Prost.
Mitch Evans qualified 14th but is set to start on the last row of the grid following a 10-place grid penalty for a gearbox change.
Evans will be joined there by Jaguar team-mate Nelson Piquet Jr, who did not take to the circuit for a lap as both of his cars were being worked on following incidents in the previous practice sessions.
