A safety car and aggressive tyre strategy allowed Daniel Ricciardo to take his first victory of the 2018 Formula 1 championship, just a day after his engine had failed and he narrowly avoided missing out on qualifying.
Free practice had suggested tyre wear would be a crucial factor in the Chinese Grand Prix, with Pirelli bringing the new ultra-soft tyres to the race, but nobody was sure just how long the tyres would last.
Heading into the race, it looked like the soft-tyre wielding Ferraris and Mercedes would have the advantage, but Red Bull gambled with a tyre swap when the safety car was brought out by a Toro Rosso clash. A gamble which ultimately paid off.
