Maverick Vinales tops first test in Qatar

With the 2018 season getting closer and closer, Maverick Vinales has topped the first test session in Qatar.

The Spaniard ended the first test with his Yamaha M1 on top of the timesheets. Vinales beat out Andrea Dovizoso and Andrea Iannone, who placed second and third at the Losail circuit.

Johann Zarco was fourth, whilst Jorge Lorenzo and Alex Rins finished in fifth and sixth.

2017 World Champion Marc Marquez ended day one in tenth place, just in front of teammate Dani Pedrosa. Valentino Rossi finished in seventh.

In terms of rookies, Takaaki Nakagami was the best of the newbies. The Japanese rider finished in 14th, with the rest of the rookies rounding out the rear as they get to grips with the MotoGP machinery.

Scott Redding finished 15th as he learns the ropes on the Aprilia, with Tito Rabat finishing just behind in 16th as he learns the Ducati.

The second day of testing gets underway tomorrow at 10:00am GMT.
